Why You Should Shower Before Swimming

As we dream of the warm, summer months, we all long for the time when we can enjoy our pools again. Or maybe you’re one of the lucky ones with a heated pool you can enjoy in the winter. Whether you enjoy basking in the sun or swimming laps, the pool months are a time for enjoyment, relaxation, and fun. There are a lot of logistics that are not as fun, though. The main one is cleanliness before going into the pool and cleanliness once you are done in the pool.

It is essential to be clean before going into the pool. Even though your pool has chlorine in it, by going into the pool without showering, you are bringing in all of the bacteria, dirt, and grime that is on your body into a shared water space. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends showering with soap before entering a shared pool to mitigate the introduction of bacteria and other smells into the pool. It is crucial to clean the perianal area to reduce bringing fecal matter into the shared water space. By doing so, you also limit the reaction that these bacteria can have with the chlorine itself. Imagine - would you share bathwater with someone else? Probably not - so why not shower before going into the pool?

For most people, the reason they do not shower before going into the pool is because it is not convenient. We do not blame you for that, and that is why we offer a unique solution to this problem! Instead of dripping water throughout your house, install an outdoor shower near your pool! The outdoor shower will allow you to contain all pool-related activities, such as changing and showering, right near the pool.

The outdoor shower can also promote health because you can immediately shower after using the pool, thereby limiting chlorine-related hair and skin damage. Furthermore, the outdoor shower can function as an extra changing space for guests, so you can limit guests inside your house (if you so choose).
